C’mon Barbie, Lets Go Party!

How Barbiecore became this summer’s biggest trend.

POSTED BY PHOEBE COTTERELL

If you don’t like pink then it might be time to rethink as this summer ‘Barbiecore’ is trending and everyone from Florence Pugh to Megan Fox is hopping on the craze. Margot Robbie may be the one to blame for this new trend as she’s been snapped and seen all over the internet playing ‘Barbie’ herself in Greta Gerwig’s 2023 ‘Barbie’ movie. Whether she’s pictured in her 80’s neon gym wear rollerblading around with her Ken (a bleach blonde Ryan Gosling) or papped in pink Western flares and a matching waistcoat the internet has EATEN IT UP!

The new super-saccharine summer aesthetic hasn’t just stuck to the set of the ‘Barbie’ movie, instead the trend has spread far and wide with searches for ‘Barbiecore’ up 263% in the last month. Earlier this year Pierpaolo Piccioli, creative director of Valentino, debuted a collection that consisted of top-to-toe “PP Pink” looks, a shade the designer developed especially. On Friday we saw a star-studded array of celebs, including Anne Hathaway, Florence Pugh, Tommy Dorfman and Ariana DeBose, attending Valentino’s couture show all dressed up in their best “PP Pink” looks. Previously we saw Sebastian Stan looking drool worthy in an all pink Valentino get-up at this years Met Gala and even F1 sporting superstar Lewis Hamilton strut his stuff at the Miami Grand Prix in “PP Pink”, proving pink isn’t just for girls especially if it’s by Valentino.

Of course, A-listers have been all over the trend with Kim Kardashian herself taking to Instagram in June to show off how she paired her newly platinum hair with Balenciaga’s powder pink panatboots and encrusted Hourglass bag. Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox were both recently pictured at the premier for the singer’s new documentary ‘Life in Pink’ looking every bit the emo Barbie and Ken. MGK sported a popcorn textured top by rising star Chet Lo and Megan adorned a figure-hugging dress by LVMH 2021 prize winner Nensi Dojaka, to top off their looks the couple both opted for matching pink hair.
