Sabato De Sarno revives mod with a contemporary twist.
Held within the riverside Tate Modern, an extravagant art gallery in the heart of London, England, Gucci Cruise 2025 brought a fresh sense of vitality to the designer fashion industry. As serene as a garden, with pristine greenery and foliage lining the catwalk, the resort runway show engaged an audience filled with the likes of Kate Moss, Dua Lipa, Alexa Chung, and Solange, to whom Gucci unveiled the dreamy, burgeoning collection to.
The resort show of all resort shows, Gucci Cruise 2025 seamlessly merged elegant and sexy aesthetics to create a Spring/Summer line fit for the new era of it girls. The recently appointed creative director of Gucci, Sabato De Sarno, maintained his edge as he played with the movement and texture of the garments. Featuring airy, flowy maxi dresses, tailored, oversized outerwear, matching ensembles, and micro shorts and skirts, Gucci’s newest collection paid homage to British mod styles enhanced with modern flair.
Included in the collection were stylish and innovative textiles, notably matte suede, laser-cut sheer organza, washed denim, and premier leather. The trims and details of the line featured hand-applied studs and sequins, floral beaded embroidery, pussy bow necklines, and martingale belts.
In pure British fashion, the Gucci Cruise 2025 offerings incorporated hints of tartans and plaids, and the mod-inspired designs utilized clustered floral patterns reminiscent of those of the 1960s. As for the shoes, the selection was fully composed of chic flats in colors of red, brown, and black, with the vast majority of oxfords paired with adorable Gucci-trimmed ankle socks.
Utilizing the long-established springy pastels like pale green, dusty pink, floral lilac, and butter yellow, creative director Sabato De Sarno opted to use unconventional pops in the collection, too, such as darker shades of cherry red, grey, and black. Surely, this collection is for more than just your typical traditionalist—it invites the audience to embrace distinctive, contemporary styles.
Both traditional and unconventional, De Sarno’s work for Gucci Cruise 2025 celebrates the philosophy of beautifully constructed and well-tailored garments that pay homage to what this industry is all about: looking and feeling your absolute best. Shown in London for the first time since 2016, Gucci’s 2024 resort show was certainly a sight to behold and captured the essence of luxury ready-to-wear.
