Runway For Planes Or Fashion?
The airport aesthetic has everyone in a chokehold.
As expected for this time of year, my Instagram feed is full of holiday dumps. What I didn’t expect was the growing presence of airport pictures, and the way that traveling to a place (rather than just being there) has turned into its own aesthetic.
The ‘airport outfit’ has been around for a while, from cute matching sets to comfy athleisure to quiet luxury, there’s a bit of everything. The trip starts at departures, not arrivals!
I think the airport aesthetic has gone a lot further this summer, with luggage and passport covers being thrown into the mix. From matching Rimowa suitcases to Goyard totes as carry-on luggage, the airport has turned into everyone’s new favorite photo spot.
I love how people are finding fun in the mundane. Being at the airport is usually associated with stress and panic, but the Instagram girlies have found a way to make it an exciting part of the trip. I’m obsessed with the security pics finding their way into people’s photo dumps, their color-coordinated tech and accessories all laid out for a cute picture. Make sure not to do this during peak times, though, or you might get a few sideways glances…
While I wouldn’t go as far as to say I’m more excited for the airport than the destination of my next trip, I’m definitely seeing the once-stressful experience as part of the adventure.
