The Balenciaga Era Returns
Celebrities like Kim Kardashian return as ambassadors of the house.
On January 22, Balenciaga declared Kim Kardashian as its brand ambassador, accompanied by a striking portrait captured by documentary photographer Platon.
Kim Kardashian's association with Balenciaga has been extensive, having graced the runway at the 51st Couture show, attended Balenciaga runway shows, and collaborated with creative director Demna for the 2021 Met Gala, where she wore custom Balenciaga.
The Skims founder has also been featured in numerous house campaigns, showcasing her admiration for Demna's work.
Despite a brief reconsideration of her ties with the fashion house in the aftermath of the 2022 campaign controversy, Kim Kardashian, now a reality star-turned-billionaire mogul, has embraced the role of brand ambassador.
Expressing her enthusiasm for the collaboration, Kardashian stated, "For several years now, Balenciaga’s designs have been a part of my many looks — and some of my most iconic fashion moments. This historic fashion house embraces modernity, craftsmanship, and takes an innovative approach to design under Demna."
As Kardashian and Balenciaga formalize their partnership, she inaugurates her ambassadorial role with a campaign lensed by documentary photographer Platon. Despite her decade-long presence in front of cameras, Kardashian acknowledges a distinct perspective on photoshoots, highlighting the unique nature of campaign and editorial shoots.
Joining the ranks of Balenciaga's esteemed ambassadors, such as Isabelle Huppert, PP Krit Amnuaydechkorn, and Michelle Yeoh, Nicole Kidman shares her excitement about the collaboration.
In a statement, Kidman expressed, "Balenciaga has been with me through some of the most memorable events in my life, from my wedding to the Oscars red carpet. I'm excited to work with Balenciaga as an ambassador and look forward to creating more memories together."
Reflecting on a controversial incident in November 2022, Balenciaga faced criticism for an advertising campaign featuring children holding teddy bears dressed in bondage and BDSM gear, posted on their Instagram account.
Following public outcry, Balenciaga issued an apology and removed all posts associated with the controversial photo campaign.
