Upcoming Music Trends for 2022
Its looking groovy
Music, like fashion and art, has its own variety of trends that change throughout the months and years. But what can we predict about the trends that may be coming in 2022?
More Artists Will Be Inspired by Adeles “An Audience with Adele”
Adele definitely was a hot topic of 2021 with her groundbreaking new album and live show, An Audience with Adele. The singer performed to a star packed audience and followed with an open and heartfelt interview, and this did wonders for promoting her new album. The show was really an amazing opportunity to see Adele in a new vulnerable light and it worked amazingly for promoting the album. It is possible that other artists will be inspired by this to do their own similar one of shows to promote music and to be more open with their audiences.
The Charts Will be Seeing More Upbeat Music
The last couple of years haven't been the best given the ongoing pandemic, and this has been reflected in some of the top songs of the year. With new albums from Lana Del Rey and Olivia Rodrigo having quite sad themes and songs such as Billie Eilish’s Happier than Ever dominating the radio it's safe to say 2021’s mood was reflected in its music. That being said, most of us are sick of the sadness and are ready to move onto happier things in 2022 and this will be shown in our charts. Artists are going to want to uplift us and continue the new year new me attitude so many people have adopted this year.
Pop Will Become More R&B Influenced
Throughout the last few years R&B has made a comeback with artists such as Her and Drake creating music filled with R&B influences. This trend has become more and more popular with artists such as Tyler the Creator, Mac Demarco and Childish Gambino all releasing tracks with heavy R&B influences. It would be wise to assume that this trend will continue to grow into 2022.
More Representation within the industry
As wonderful as the music industry is, it hasn’t always been the most inclusive. However, as the years have gone on more female artists and POC artists have been on the rise, and we are here for it. It would be amazing to continue seeing a growth in representation in 2022 and we can support this by listening to smaller artists of all genders, races and identities. We can all hope for an equal and well represented music industry in 2022.
Fashion will influence the 70s aesthetic in music
Finally, music will become more influenced by the 70s. Music and fashion have always gone hand in hand, and we saw this in the 2010’s when fashion became heavily influenced by the 80s and music soon followed. Fashion has become dominated with floral prints, flares and color and its safe to assume music will be doing the same. This also will tie in with the idea that we all want happier music this year and nothing fits that better than some cheesy 70s bops.
So, what are your predictions for 2022? We can only hope it will be better than 2021 but at least there is always new music to look forward to!
