The Return Of Y2K Accessories
The obsession with accessorizing like its the early 2000s.
Dear Y2k accessories,
We've got a confession. We're in love with you, and we keep on wanting you back like a toxic ex.
Just when we think that Y2K fashion has disappeared, baggy cargos and low-waisted jeans make their return to shop windows once again.
There has been a particular rise in Y2K accessories; butterfly clips, chunky necklaces, bangles and baguette bags are all the talk.
So let's take a look at some of Y2K's hottest accessories...

Hats
Starting off with hats.
Personally, I am not a hat person. But I can never say no to a Y2K hat.
Y2K hats are all about grunge; flat-top baseball caps, buckets and flat-top cadet hats are a must-have to make the 2000s look work. Especially if they are khaki green, have rhinestones or butterflies on them.

Skinny Scarves
You can call them ridiculous, but skinny scarves are back and better than ever.
A skinny scarf can range from a woollen and semi-warm to a sequin string.
The materials are limitless, but the faves of the 2000s was a sequin chain scarf or fringe scarf, highlighted by the legend Lorelai Gilmore in Gilmore Girls.

Chains And Bangles
The keyword for Y2K jewellery is chunky.
A chunky chain with a chunky pendant and layered chunky bangles in gold or silver or both!
A 2000s staple was a flower chord necklace roped around your neck with a flower (of course chunky) as the centerpiece.
Colours have to be bright, like neon and pink, and if you're feeling like taking jewellery a step further, a belly ring too.

Bags
Now, for my favourite. Y2K bags. Oh, I just love them.
Y2K bags are typically small, clutched under the armpit.
They work best when they have futuristic materials, vibrant colours and maximalist, in-your-face branding. There is nothing quiet about a Y2K bag; it is loud and edgy, and sometimes has a funky keyring dangling at the end of it, like a cherry.
Some examples include the Fendi Baguette, which starred in Sex and the City, Guess's Y2K collection, or the Chloé Paddington 'It' bag.

The Hype
Many people don't understand the hype of the 2000s fashion. Some people actually detest it, and that's totally okay! That's why taste is a personal preference.
There is still a level of mystery as to why hypes become hypes.
But, if I had to guess, the obsession with Y2K accessories and fashion generally is perhaps due to its boldness and loudness. It's a form of self-expression in a world of order. A Charlie XCX Brat Aesthetic in a world of 'clean girls'.
Especially for women, it allows us to dress freely without the pressure of looking 'perfect, glamorous and put-together'. You can clash colours, materials and clothing as much as you like in Y2K fashion because you totally can, without any need to justify why, and that is why I love it.
Love them or hate them, Y2K accessories know how to make an outfit memorable. Below, Fizzypicks of the nostalgic pieces we're adding straight to our mood boards.
