I'm Entering My Aqua Mermaid Era
Is it green? Is it blue? Either way, I'm in!
The contenders for color of the summer are fierce. While chocolate brown and butter yellow are still good enough to eat, I’d argue that the real winner of the season is aqua.
I’ve been an active participant in the nautical craze this year, loving fish earrings, shell accents, and sailor hats. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that I’m also a big fan of the greenish-blue hues behind this season’s most vibrant color trend.

Aqua is undoubtedly a standout shade and has been gaining huge traction online thanks to its playful Y2K nostalgia and summer holiday vibes. It has also been popularized by celebrities like Zara Larsson, alongside the beachy aesthetic that has left my wardrobe looking almost tropical.
Green, Blue, Or Both?
When it comes to defining aqua, things aren't always straightforward. While some publications have been using Pantone’s "Aqua Haze" as their point of reference, I’d say aqua can really sit anywhere between green and blue. The shade can feel cool or warm, but it always reminds me of clear Mediterranean waters. Think your bathroom in the 2010s (if you know, you know).

My Mermaid Era
My favorite way to embrace the trend has been through jewelry. I’m lucky enough to have a growing collection of vintage turquoise pieces, which add a little sign of summer to any outfit.
I also love the textures I've seen across aqua pieces. It’s not exactly an understated shade, so I’d go full maximalist with a shell-textured piece like my CULTNAKED skort or a sequin style like my Lovers and Friends pick to fully embrace my mermaid fantasy.
What I love most about aqua is its sense of excess—it’s full of vividness and energy. Pieces with shiny appliqué, playful details, or dynamic silhouettes work perfectly with the shade and capture the lush summer feeling many of us are dreaming of.

Take Anthropologie’s fish bag, for example. I love it for its unserious, fun side. ABRA’s blue and orange ballet shoe is another favorite thanks to its unexpected color combination (take notes).
So, if you want to soak up the aqua trend this summer, here are the Fizzypicks currently at the top of my wishlist.
