If there's one decade that won't go away from the fashion scene, it's the 2000s. Although controversial for its uno beauty standards and unhealthy behaviors, the 2000s is also known for its undeniable glitz.

From shimmering silver Julien Macdonald mini-dresses –  we are talking to you, Paris Hilton – to hot shades of pink, the current fashion world continues to embrace the decade’s trends, removing its negative aspects and just maintaining the style.

Seen on the runways as Roberto Cavalli Spring 2024 with low-waisted pants, Miu Miu Spring 2024 with miniskirts – because they should be the size of a belt! –, Namilia Spring 2025 with graphic tees, and celebrities like Addison Rae, Lizzo and Sabrina Carpenter, Y2K fashion is here to stay. Especially this summer, with fashionistas ready for some glitz and glam in the fashion realm.

So, for style inspiration this summer, Fizzy is taking you on a nostalgic trip down memory lane and looking back at eight fashion icons from the 2000s.

Beyoncé

From her Destiny's Child days to her solo career, Beyoncé has always been a style icon. And in the 2000s, things were no different. Donning bandanas, tie-dye shirts, crop tops, hoop earrings, miniskirts, caps, flirty minidresses and low-rise jeans, the singer's millennial style remains iconic to this day.

Britney Spears

It's impossible to talk about the 2000s without mentioning Britney Spears. Whether because of the album Oops! I Did It Again or the iconic video clip for I'm Slave 4 U, the singer became a cult figure and continues to attract a legion of fans to this day.

Beyond her dance-pop records, her style became an emblem of the decade. With Juicy Couture velvet tracksuits, low-waisted pants, and iconic graphic tees – such as "I'm the American Dream" and "Dump Him" – Britney Spears' fashion and music legacy remains synonymous with the 2000s.

Paris Hilton

Known for being the great-granddaughter of Conrad Hilton, founder of Hilton Hotels, attending glamorous parties, being spotted by the paparazzi, and her reality show with Nicole Richie, "The Simple Life," Paris Hilton became a recognizable figure in the 2000s. And she was no less influential on the fashion scene.

Popularizing Juicy Couture tracksuits, high-end It bags like Fendi Baguettes, low-rise jeans, bright colors, strappy sandals and sparkly dresses, Hilton's impact is still felt today, with Tik Tok users frequently recreating her looks and lip-synching some of her iconic quotes – ''That's hot'' and ''Never pass a mirror without looking in it'' – and luxury labels like Versace and Mugler casting her to walk the runway.

Rihanna

With hits like "Please Don't Stop the Music" and "Pon de Replay," Rihanna has become an epic singer in the music industry, and netizens are still wondering if she will release a next album. Until that new album arrives, fans will have to content themselves with the songs that have been released since 2005.

While the singer continues to deliver iconic looks for fashionistas and her fans – be it with a cool “I’m retired” shirt or all chic with fur coats –, there is nothing like her style from the 2000s. With an all flashy look, donning halter tops, low waisted jeans, body chains, hoop earrings, puffy jackets, miniskirts and bulky bracelets, Rihanna was one of the biggest fashion icons of the decade – and she still is today.

Jennifer Lopez

As rumors and romances continue to haunt Jenny from the Block, Jennifer Lopez remains on top —  be it in movies, with her catchy pop songs enough to wake up a whole continent, and looks to die for. If this persists to this day, imagine the effect in the 2000s.

The star of ''The Wedding Planner,'' with hits like ''Love Don't Cost a Thing'' and ''All I Have,'' it took little to no time for her to become a fashion icon. And in the 2000s, she did the job to perfection. Wearing dazzling outfits on awards ceremonies, low-cut tops, low-rise pants, chunky belts, edgy sunglasses, mini- shorts, and Juicy tracksuits, JLO cemented her status as a pop star with an iconic Y2K style.

Christina Aguilera

From songs like ''Lady Marmalade'' to ''Candyman,'' Christina Aguilera shaped the 2000s. And her sartorial choices were no exception. Sporting cargo pants, cut-out dresses, low waisted beaded trousers and metallic ones, bandanas, micro skirts, berets, and graphic shirts – like ''Super Sexy Girl'' and ''Rock Girl'' –, Aguilera remains one of the biggest Y2K fashionistas to this day.

Mariah Carey

The author of legendary songs such as "Obsessed," "All I Want For Christmas Is You,'' ''Touch My Body'' and "We Belong Together'', Mariah Carey is one of the most illustrious singers in music history.

Apart from that, she's a fashion diva too. With minidresses, giant sunglasses, low waisted jeans, mermaid-like skirts, silk jackets, leggings with her initials engraved, tank tops, denim skirts, waist chains, and Juicy Couture coats, Carey was one of the most influential trendsetters of the 2000s, setting trends while making sure to leave an unparalleled legacy in the world.

Shakira

Known for releasing songs when the World Cup approached, shaking her hips like no one else, and delivering unforgettable vocals, Shakira became one of the most iconic Latin singers. From her debut album "Magia" to the iconic song ''Hips Don't Lie,'' the Colombian singer has inspired a whole generation of Latinx women.

Despite her songs taking the world by storm initially, so did her style choices, which turned her into one of the manifestations of Y2K fashion. With sultry, risqué looks that perfectly encapsulated her rock-pop, Shakira's choices included naked dresses, low-waisted leather pants, crop tops, crucifix necklaces, fur scarves, bulky belts, low-rise jeans – sometimes even shredded –, graphic tees, and belly dance skirts.
