Forget Trends: How Classic Style Rules 2026

Forget the rules, forget the ‘-cores’—make your style your own.

POSTED BY GRETCHEN DEUTSCH

It’s interesting because our major fashion predictions at the beginning of this year were that the clean girl was out and the party girl was in, think elevated Charlie XCX brat summer vibes. While that is still true, Ryan Murphy’s Love Story series made us all do a quick 180, as it showcased Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s ’90s minimalist style that everyone now wants to recreate. It’s always put together, with a touch of that natural “mess.” The designer Fall/Winter runway shows also proved us wrong, highlighting a general theme of minimalist, classic tailoring with a reimagined edge.

Although this year’s style isn’t exactly what we projected, it highlights an important shift.

We quickly realized that fashion doesn’t need to be defined by singular trends. Right now, there is no one “core” dominating everyone’s wardrobe. Outfits are sleek with a touch of natural undoneness. I honestly think we have run out of distinct “-cores” and are learning to appreciate everything.

We’re in a world where anything goes, and classic looks can never fail. All rules and equations to achieving the “-girl” aesthetic can be thrown out the window. Timeless pieces are styled in reinvented ways, and classic tailoring meets relaxed ease. It’s a wardrobe philosophy that celebrates versatility, confidence, and individuality.

The beauty of today’s style landscape is that there’s room for every interpretation. Fashion isn’t about fitting into a box; it’s about curating a look that feels like you, effortlessly.

Classic never goes out of style, minimalism still reigns, and a touch of undone details makes everything feel modern. Right now, the best trend is your style.

Right now, the best trend is your style—and if you need a starting point, my Fizzypicks are full of pieces that make effortless feel intentional.
