Demure Fall has taken over Brat Summer

Here are some ways to embrace the trend

POSTED BY SYDNEY YEAGER

If you’ve been on the internet the past few days, it’s become obvious that Brat Summer has officially ended just a few weeks before the start of school. In its place, ‘Demure Fall’ has come to fill the micro-trend void.

Where Brat Summer was loud and full of baby tees, parties, and plenty of slime green-hued items, Demure Fall is modest, mindful, and respectful. This trend wasn’t started by an album by Charlie XCX, instead, it was based upon a sound posted by TikToker Jools Lebron. The make-up artist shared a video talking about how she gets ready for work, “I do my makeup. I do a little braid,” she said. “I don’t come to work with a green cut crease. I don’t do too much. I’m very mindful when I’m at work.”...I’m very demure.

From there the trend took over as if consumers had no mind of their own but to focus completely on micro-trends of the moment. After questioning Brat Summer, the meaning of Brat, and how it could impact the presidential election in the U.S., there’s been a shift. Instead of party clothes and song lyrics discussing ‘bumping that’ in the bathroom, TikTokers and Instagrammers alike are now showing all the different ways they’ve been demure.

The things shared often end up being class acts or style tips–many of which would make your grandmother smile. But what does this mean for fashion? If Brat Summer brought on strappy clothes and neon hues, does Demure Fall mean something new will come to light? Below are some ‘demure’ items that we could be seeing more of soon.

1. Capri Pants

Capri pants are already popping up as a fall 2024 trend but with their vintage history and Audrey Hepburn as their elegant representative, they can easily become the Demure Fall style star.

2. Shift Dresses

Shift dresses are a simple silhouette. Modest. Respectful, they're not trying too hard. Very demureeee.

3. Plaids–particularly scarves

Scarves are always a great option, but pair that with a rich jewel-tone plaid and pop it on a gray shift dress. So ‘demure-tsy!’

4. Neutral colors

Neutral colors are simple, classic, and very mindful. Prepare to see the demure girls wearing them this fall.

5. French Manicures

Can’t you practically already hear the girls tapping their Stanley water bottles while discussing the new ‘trend’ of the demure and chic French Manicure?
