Rainn Wilson Changes His Name To Combat Climate Change
The Office actor made the official announcement on Twitter, encouraging others to join him in the movement.
Rainnfall Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson...you read that correctly! This is what our favorite The Office actor has changed his name to, to fight climate change.
A dedicated member of Arctic Basecamp, Rainn Wilson, 56, joined the group spreading their expertise globally about the ongoing situation in the Arctic. In addition, Wilson is making people aware of the group's Arctic Risk Name Generator, urging you to change your name also and become an "Arctic Name Changer."
In a video he posted on his Twitter account on Wednesday, coinciding with the United Nations COP27 climate change conference this week. Wilson said:
"What happens in the arctic doesn't stay in the Arctic. As the polar caps melt, it drives up the risk throughout the world, including extreme weather events that affect all of us. So as a cheap little stunt to save Planet Earth, I've changed my name on Twitter, Instagram, and even on my fancy writing paper… because I'm an Arctic risk name changer, which is going to be a game changer."
The actor continues: "Our mission at Arctic Basecamp is to raise awareness of the global risk of Arctic weather change - it's not just bad news for the Arctic, but for us too. That's why I changed my name, and you should too - to help tell the world leaders and influencers that we need to act now. So I'm reaching out to you and lots of folks in show business to change their names."
Join me @ @ArcticBasecamp in bringing attention to the melting issue. We need world leaders to take action at COP 27!

The Arctic is melting at Millions of Liters per second, yet this problem can’t seem to make a name for itself, so we’ll make a name for it.

Afterward, he tweeted an update saying that because of the current changes on Twitter, he has to wait to change his name.
Presently it's unclear whether the actor is proceeding with his official name change, but we are keen to see which other celebrities follow in his footsteps. Maybe Steve Climate Crisis Carrell? No?... I'll leave that to the professionals!
