Elle Woods' High School Years: Three Outfits She Should Wear

Reese Witherspoon recently announced on social media that a Legally Blonde series is in the works, set to be released on Amazon Prime Video. The series will take fans of the cult classic back to the nineties to watch Elle’s life unfold as a high schooler – way before her Harvard days.  

The pressures of working with such beloved source material come in more ways than one. The series needs to meet expectations in how its written, filmed, and of course, styled. Elle Woods is solidified in rom-com history as the most stylish lawyer of all time, so the series needs to portray the earlier stages of her girly style while matching the trends of the nineties. 

Here are three outfits that high school Elle Woods should wear:

Prom 

We know that Elle Woods knows how to dress up, so she probably would’ve dazzled at prom. She should wear a pink Blumarine dress with rose detailing paired with Prada slingbacks and a flower choker – it’s so nineties. 

Preppy

In the movie, we don’t get a glimpse of Elle’s preppy style until she attends Harvard. However, she manages to pull off the style so well that it’s evident she would’ve leaned into it in her high school days. A Saint Laurent pale blue mohair sweater and straight-leg jeans paired with block-heeled Sam Edelman slingbacks put a casual twist on high school prep. A pair of Prada reading glasses complete the look. 

Pool Day

The pool scene from Elle’s Harvard application video is so iconic there is no way it can’t be referenced in the series. High school Elle should wear a Herve Leger hot pink and electric blue twisted bikini with platforms, sunglasses, and a matching beaded necklace. A sarong and a floral-print beach bag can be left by the poolside.
