Kylie Jenner’s Met Gala look has stirred up a lot of conversation since the event on Monday night. Although the look itself has divided people online, one thing is certain, the reality-star made a beautiful homage to her late friend and designer Virgil Abloh. Virgil Abloh, founder of Off-White and artistic director of Louis Vuitton, passed away in November 2021.

Jenner had planned to attend the 2020 Met Gala with Abloh before it was postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, when Jenner made her return to the Met Gala this year, she chose to honor her late friend by wearing one of his designs. This was not just a matter of choosing one of Abloh’s many designs though, Jenner wore the dress that Abloh had purposefully designed for the Met’s ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’ exhibition that was removed from the collection for logistical reasons. Following on from this decision Off-White showcased the gown as the closing piece for his Autumn/Winter 2022 show after his death in 2021. The Met then reinstated the gown into the collection earlier this year and not only has it found its rightful place within the exhibition, but it also got to take center stage on the steps of the Met on Monday evening.

Jenner took to Instagram to share her look and to write a heartfelt caption honoring Virgil Abloh. She wrote: “Virgil and I were supposed to go to the Met together before it got postponed in 2020. to celebrate V tonight and his incredible legacy truly means the world to me. I’m humbled to wear this dress and honor my talented beautiful friend. we felt you tonight Virgil and love you forever”.
