How I’m Wearing Jorts This Summer
Are you a baby tee or blouse kind of gal?
By now, I feel like everyone either already owns a pair of jorts or is on the verge of buying them. They’ve quietly become one of those pieces that just makes sense in summer—basically denim’s more relaxed, slightly cooler cousin. I’ve had mine for a while now, and I honestly can’t think of a season where I’ve styled them in more different ways than this one.
There’s something about jorts that makes me switch between aesthetics without really meaning to. One day I’ll want to lean into something soft and effortless, the next I’m dressing them up in a way that feels a bit more intentional. It’s probably why I keep reaching for them — they just adapt to whatever version of me is getting dressed that day.

On the days I want to feel a bit more put-together but still relaxed, I usually go for an oversized linen shirt with them. There’s something about that combination that feels very “out exploring a city on holiday,” even if I’m just running errands. It’s boyish in a way I really like, but still soft enough that it doesn’t feel too styled.

Then there are the days I lean fully into something more fitted, where I’ll throw on a baby tee instead. It’s such an easy combination, but it always works. I like how it balances out the wider shape of the jorts, and it’s usually the outfit I default to when I don’t want to think too much but still want to feel like I’ve made an effort. I’ll usually add small accessories here — sporty sunglasses or a shoulder bag — just to make it feel a bit more intentional.

Sometimes I go in a slightly more Y2K direction and wear a strapless top instead, usually with a skinny scarf if I’m in the mood for something a bit more playful. I love how bare it feels on top compared to the volume of the jorts — it just makes the whole outfit feel a bit more interesting. It’s also one of those combinations where small details really matter, like matching colors or adding a bit of texture.
On other days, I like softening them completely. A blouse with puff sleeves and a pair of cute socks changes the whole mood of jorts for me. They stop feeling tomboyish and start leaning into something a bit more girly and nostalgic, which I really love. It’s my way of still feeling like I’m dressing up without defaulting to a skirt or dress.

And then there are the more unexpected moments — like styling them with a football jersey. I didn’t think I’d like that contrast at first, but it actually makes sense. It feels a bit more oversized, a bit more relaxed, and I like how it pushes the jorts back into that sporty, off-duty space. I usually keep accessories closer to the body here — smaller bags, slimmer sneakers — just to balance the proportions.

I think that’s what I like most about jorts overall: they don’t really lock me into one version of myself. They shift depending on my mood, and I don’t feel like I have to commit to just one way of wearing them.
These are just the combinations I keep coming back to right now, but I have a feeling that will change again soon — probably as soon as I find a new way to style them.
