This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival. While we should focus on the reviews for Baz Luhrmann’s highly anticipated Elvis biopic, we can’t help but feel our attention drift towards the dresses. Each year a flurry of stars take to Cannes posing at red carpets and sponsored events, this year model Bella Hadid has stolen the spotlight with a slew of vintage looks.

Touching down in France on Tuesday Bella started her Cannes reign by attending the screening of ‘The Innocent’ wearing a Versace gown from the 1980s styled by Law Roach (the man behind Zendays looks). The strapless black gown featured a peplum waistline and a dramatic black bow, initially designed by Gianni Versace in 1987 the dress was originally intended for a Teatro alla Scala production of the opera ‘Salome’.

Following the premiere of ‘The Innocent’ Bella slipped into a seductive gown from Versace’s fall 2001 ready-to-wear collection for the Cannes 75th anniversary dinner. The gown boasted a plunging neckline, long sleeves and silhouette enhancing cut-outs at the top of her hips. A caramel brown leather section wrapped around her hips like a belt and curved creatively around the back of the dress.

On Wednesday afternoon Bella didn’t need an event or premiere to show off her fashion prowess instead she took to her balcony in Rapunzel-like fashion waving to fans and photographers from above. She wore yet another vintage Versace dress, this time with a lace-up corset and a high leg slit from autumn/winter 2003. Some celebs like Iris Law and Devon Lee Carlson have been pictured in the green version of the dress but Bella chose to stand out from the crowd by adorning the dress in a light nude shade.

When Wednesday night came around Bella switched out archival Versace for archival Chanel for the Chopard Loves Cinema dinner. The 80’s black and white frou-frou design inspired by Flamenco was designed by Karl Largerfeld for the Chanel 1986 autumn/winter collection. The model accessorized the look with a sparkling Chopard choker and a sweet white bow in her hair.

On Thursday Bella wore a fifth archival look to the screening of ‘Les Bonnes Etoiles’, this time around opting for a white jersey gown from Tom Ford’s time at the helm of Gucci. The dress comes from the autumn/winter 1996 collection which Vogue labelled “the fashion equivalent of a one-night stand at Studio 54”. Strategically placed, the gown features a cutout, over the hipbone highlighting the infamous Gucci G-string with a gold Peretti-esque loop.
