The Ultimate Formula For Effortless Model Off-Duty Style

Your guide to achieving the perfect off-duty model look.

POSTED BY LIZZY SWINERD

‘Model off-duty’ was a term coined in the 2010s. It’s a blanket term to describe the style of a model when they aren’t strutting down runways wearing couture. Most off-duty looks are simple with a stylish edge. The aim is to look effortless, like a model flitting between shows and castings with no time to dress up.

To achieve the look, you can’t be afraid of basic silhouettes and styles – but you do need to know how to enhance them.

Here is the off-duty model formula.

Denim.

The key to all great off-duty looks is a trusty denim piece, whether a pair of wide-leg jeans or a pleated denim mini-skirt. It’s a sure-fire way to look put-together without putting any effort in at all.

T-shirt.

A simple white tee or groovy graphic t-shirt looks perfect with jeans – á la Jane Birkin. Alternatively, if bloke-core is your thing, add a sporty twist with an oversized football jersey.

Leather.

Leather jackets have always been a staple of off-duty style. In the ‘10s models wore belted leather jackets that were slightly cropped. Nowadays, biker or blazer-style leather jackets are all the rage.

Shoes.

A signature pair of sneakers will elevate any look, as will a pair of knee-high leather boots. Wear sneakers with mid-calf socks for a retro look.

Accessorize.

The simple formula allows for endless customization. Replace shoelaces with ribbons, and carry a colorful baguette bag or an oversized tote. Shield your eyes from the sun in oversized sunglasses or give them all the attention with small, cat-eyed specs

The model-off-duty style formula ensures you’ll never again have an ‘I don’t know what to wear’ moment, and every errand will feel like a journey from one fashion show to another.
