The Bond girl is unrecognizable in the first trailer for the Marilyn Monroe biopic, Blonde.

Netflix has debuted the overwhelmingly anticipated trailer for Blonde, Andrew Dominik’s Marilyn Monroe biopic. On the off-chance that its evocative monochrome tinge hasn’t already reinvigorated the thrill of Old Hollywood, Ana de Armas’ transformation will certainly do the trick.

Platinum-blonde waves, faint beauty mark, signature red lip – de Armas has the ill-fated actress’ iconoclastic looks down to a tee. And all it took was sitting on the makeup chair for three, glorious hours each day. This tediousness comes as no surprise. Among the cadre of on-screen starlets, Monroe is (unsurprisingly) one of the most difficult to depict. But Dominik is reasonably fastidious in adapting Joyce Carol Oates’ best-selling novel. "Every scene is inspired by an existing photograph," de Armas told the Netflix Queue.

In the trailer, the No Time To Die actress breathes new life into Monroe’s endearing persona: a “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend” rendition here, an up-wind dress there, and a spine-tingling ambiance everywhere. De Armas succeeds - both aesthetically and performatively - in capturing the dichotomy between Monroe’s public and private dispositions.

Blonde is set to premiere on Netflix on September 23. Watch the film’s full trailer above.
