“No Time to Die” Marks The End of Daniel Craig’s Legacy As James Bond
The longest-serving 007 receives 5-star reviews for his final performance.
After an excruciatingly long wait, the latest and final Bond installment to star Daniel Craig - “No Time to Die” marked its premiere at the Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday. Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga (“True Detective”) - celebrities and film critics gathered with anticipation, eager to see if the two hour, 43-minute film lived up to its expectations. Pulling out all the stops - it’s safe to say that “No Time to Die” is no exception to the success of Craig’s previous films as the iconic Bond.
Building on the suspense that the recent Bond movies have established, the latest film explores the deeper intricacies behind Bond’s character – “relying on tropes that feel not only familiar but comforting, it is the unfamiliar things it does that make this such an exciting entry” says Empire’s John Nugent.
Indeed, all the action-led bells and whistles make their presence known through “explosions, guns and car chases” – which Claire Gregory (Sky News) says “feel slightly gratuitous”. She makes the point of stating that Daniel Craig seizes the opportunity “to do pretty much everything you could ever expect from Bond”.
Not forgetting it’s staple dose of female empowerment – Ana de Armas (Craig’s “Knives Out” co-star) brings a touch of bad-ass glamour to the film, who, alongside Craig has been praised for her performance.
The knock-out 007 film sees several actors reprising their roles, including: Ralph Fiennes as M, Naomie Harris as Moneypenny, and Léa Seydoux as Dr. Madeleine Swann.
In his 5-star commentary of the film, Kevin Maher of The Times claims that “Craig is a towering charismatic presence from opening frame to closing shot, and he bows out in terrific, soulful, style”.
If the rave reviews are anything to go by – the Bond that becomes Craig’s successor is going to have a tough act to follow!
“No Time to Die” is available to watch in UK cinemas from the 30th of September (premiering in US theatres from October 8th).
