The Wolf Cut Is The New Chic, Girlier Mullet
Billie Eilish, Jenna Ortega, and others get in on the look
Babe, wake up. New hairstyle just dropped.
If you ever wanted a mullet or a shag– or both of them at once– in an elevated, high-fashion way, now’s your chance. With its choppy, piecey layers, the wolf cut is a more feminine version of the mullet that sets your hair into messy waves, the very definition of organized chaos. Often worn with curtain bangs, the style can be as tame or as wild as you want, invoking a lawless energy that promises to keep things fresh no matter what.
The wolf cut started off as a trend amongst K-pop musicians, most notably Choi Beomgyu from the band TXT. Now, Gen Z’s latest It Girl, Jenna Ortega, just debuted her own, coming about two years after Billie Eilish’s platinum blonde wolf cut first hit the scene. Both looks caused a stir on the internet, inspiring other girlies to get the cut themselves.
On top of everything else, the look has shades of an old school rocker, like David Bowie, who sported a similar style back in the day when pioneering avante-garde fashion. During his Ziggy Stardust days, his carrot-red hair was invariably cut into a variation on the look.
Wolf cuts can be worn with straight, wavy and curly hair textures and usually are not much longer than long bobs (a lob, if you will). So now, if you have ever wanted a glamorous mullet that makes you like a rock star, the wolf cut is for you.
