Showcasing the crème de la crème of Australian fashion, from emerging designers to long-established labels, Sydney Fashion Week stands as the country’s premier fashion event. From May 13th to the 17th, industry creatives gathered at the multi-arts organization Carriageworks in Sydney, Australia, to celebrate the hottest week of the season.

The much-anticipated event kicked off with Albus Lumen, presenting their collection on the Australian runways for the seventh time. Latin for ‘white light,’ Albus Lumen embodies a vision of confidence and femininity. Drawing inspiration from European summer style, the label grounds itself in foundational, simple elements while utilizing strikingly modern contrasts to create chic and relaxed garments.

For this particular show, Albus Lumen switched things up, landing on the theme of Rebellion. Diverging from their signature elegant and minimalistic style, the Australian-based brand has deconstructed pieces from past collections to rework them into something fresh and bold for their Resort 2025 line. Even the set was a sharp turn for the brand, who replaced their typically-elevated runways for an industrial environment.

Designer Marina Afonina meticulously reimagined design elements from the archives, transforming them into stunning, upcycled, and even disheveled looks; at Albus Lumen, what’s old is–for a fact–new again.

Standout pieces include a dramatically embellished dusty pink chiffon maxi dress, which was pulled from the brand’s 2019 collection. Light and flowy, the gown has a totally deconstructed appearance, making it one of Afonina’s favorites.

The denim of the sustainable collection was also to die for, featuring dismantled jeans that had been refreshed into breathtakingly layered and unconventional ensembles. Chiffon was featured prominently throughout the show, enhancing the collection with a truly modern touch through the see-through garments.

The collection certainly wasn’t tailored for the conventional Albus Lumen fan. Innovative and unusual pieces took center stage, including high-quality, puffy silk ballet slippers, garments with hanging threads, and double-layered waistbands. It was an immaculate blend of reimaging and restyling.

This bold shift is just the beginning for Albus Lumen. According to this collection, quiet luxury is officially over–now, it’s all about defiance and standing out with unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. After all, why blend in when you can express yourself candidly through fashion?
