Julia Fox Revives Fashion TV with 'OMG Fashun'
She's disrupting the industry with upcycling and unconventional themes.
Julia Fox is bringing fashion back into mainstream television with her new show ‘OMG Fashun’. The show, which is currently airing on E!, is a fashion design competition judged by Julia Fox, esteemed stylist Law Roach, and a guest judge. The winner of each episode receives $10,000 and will have their design modeled by Julia Fox herself. Each episode is centered around a topical but unconventional theme thought up by Julia which challenges emerging designers to come up with pieces that will disrupt the industry.
Speaking on the premise of the show, Fox told PAPER that she wanted the show to be ‘fun and unserious’ while promoting upcycling and ethical fashion. She also explained why they have different contestants in each episode instead of eliminating people throughout the show.
“We went back and forth on how we were going to do it, but we felt like this way would showcase more designers.”
While ‘OMG Fashun’ has competitors in terms of other fashion design competitions like ‘Next in Fashion’ and ‘Project Runway’ the unserious, quirky nature of the show and the fact it airs on cable TV is reminiscent of the fashion tv shows of the '90s and 2000s.
It fills the hole left by House of Style and Fashion Files. It has a nostalgic feel of 2000s fashion media while being fresh and up-to-date with current pop culture and issues. Julia is hoping that people will watch her show despite cable TV’s decline in popularity.
She told PAPER, “I'm just hoping and praying for season 2! I hope it does well, and I hope we can continue. My mission in this arena has just begun. I would love to eventually have my own room and stage at New York Fashion Week and have shows for our contestants.”
She said the importance of building relationships with contestants, “I've made sure that relationships were built. Even if they didn't win the episode, they would still get to see me wearing their clothes.”
‘OMG Fashun’ is the perfect show for switching off and enjoying elaborate, boundaryless fashion fabricated by new talent.
‘OMG Fashun’ airs every Monday on E!.
