Matilda Mann Turns July Into ‘February’
And she realizes that the time with her person has come to an end.
When Harry Styles released ‘Watermelon Sugar’ in late October two years ago, it suddenly turned out that summery songs can come out during the fall time, which changes their cheerful sound to a nostalgic meaning. With her newest single ‘February,’ Matilda Mann reversed this practice as the melancholic song feels simultaneously hopeful.
‘February is about realizing that maybe, the time with your person, is coming to an end,’ 21-year-old Matilda shares her mature confession. ‘Sometimes you can both sense it, but neither of you wants to say, you just wait around to start that conversation.’
West London-based singer is an expert in contradictory emotions and contrasts. Three months ago, we wrote about the release of her ‘Doomsday,’ which, despite its gloomy title, is a gentle expression of hope, delivered by music. Contrarily, her ‘Bloom,’ covered by us a month ago, is a cheerful song about the difficulties of new love.
‘February’ by Matilda Mann, another taster of Matilda’s forthcoming EP ‘Sonder’, is out on streaming services.
