Very soon, the annual song contest, Eurovision, among all the countries of the European Broadcasting Union (and somehow Australia) will take place. This unique musical celebration attracts millions of viewers from around the world every year. While we don’t yet know what to expect from this year’s participants, let’s set the mood by revisiting the most iconic performances in Eurovision history.
1. ABBA: Waterloo (Sweden, 1974)
Of course, we’ll start this list with the legendary Swedish band ABBA. The song “Waterloo” brought the group victory in the contest and became their ticket to global fame. Dynamic and memorable, with vibrant costumes and a catchy melody, this performance set the standard for Eurovision. Formed in 1972, ABBA continues to inspire musicians worldwide.
2. Cliff Richard: Congratulations (UK, 1968)
“Congratulations” by British singer Cliff Richard is one of Eurovision’s most recognizable numbers. Although the song came in second place, it became a massive hit and a symbol of the era. 3. Alexander Rybak: Fairytale (Norway, 2009)

4. Buranovskiye Babushki: Party For Everybody (Russia, 2012)
