Russia Expelled From 66th Eurovision Song Contest
Ukraine invasion gets Russia banned from Eurovision
Organizers of Eurovision. an international songwriting competition, have announced in a statement that Russia will not be allowed to participate in the contest following Ukraine invasion.
"The decision reflects concern that, in light of the unprecedented crisis in Ukraine, the inclusion of a Russian entry in this year's Contest would bring the competition into disrepute,” Eurovision said in a statement.

This statement comes after the music competition, created by the European Broadcast Union (EBU), just last week stated they were a “non-political cultural event which unites nations and celebrates diversity through music.” Eurovision seemingly changed their opinion after broadcasts from several countries including Iceland, Finland, Norway, and the Netherlands criticized the neutral stance.
Additionally, Alina Pash, chosen to represent Ukraine in the contest, withdrew following scrutiny over a reported 2015 visit to Russia-occupied Crimea.
The 66th edition of Eurovision will be held in Turin, Italy after Italian rock band Maneskin won the 2021 competition. The annual event is set to be held in May.
