We know the event is still some time away, but with some of the contestants already dropping tracks in preparation for Eurovision 2021, we can’t help but get excited about it! The annual event is a great chance to enjoy and experience music, fashion and culture from different areas of Europe, and it also makes for an entertaining competition.

Who are the favourites to win?

To get a good indication of which nations are looking the most promising to win the competition, let’s look at what the bookmakers are predicting. According to the latest Eurovision 2021 odds from Betfair, Lithuania and Iceland are the joint-favourites and are currently both priced at 10/1 to win the competition. France, Sweden, Russia and Bulgaria all follow with prices between 12/1 and 14/1.

Of course, a lot can happen between now and the competition taking place, so there is plenty of time for other contestants to emerge as potential favourites! Let’s take a more detailed look at the countries currently looking the most likely to win the event.

Iceland

The early signs are promising for Iceland. After making a strong impact in 2020, songwriter Daði & his group Gagnamagnið will be representing Iceland, with their entry song due to be released in March. The group’s song ‘Think about Things’ was something of a viral hit in 2020 and was used in popular British TV shows such as Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing on Ice. The success of the song has left fans eagerly anticipating the release of their Eurovision 2021 song and it will be interesting to see whether it further cements Iceland’s position as one of the favourites!

Lithuania

Lithuania recently announced that the song to represent their nation will be ‘Discotheque’ by The Roop. Their music video on YouTube has amassed over three million views in just over two weeks, highlighting the buzz generated behind the group! The music video features unique outfits and choreography that have all the hallmark signs of a viral trend and it gives a glimpse into how the live performance could potentially look.

France

The French haven’t won the contest since 1977, however, their luck could be due to change this year as they are amongst the favourites. As the winner of their national final which took place at the end of January, Barbara Pravi will perform ‘Voila’ and will be hoping she can claim Frances first Eurovision victory for over 40 years. Interestingly, Barbara Pravi is releasing the music video of ‘Voila’ as an initial chapter of a three-part short film. This could hopefully mean she has something unique and entertaining planned for her live performance of the song, which we will all get to experience as part of Eurovision 2021.

As Eurovision 2021 gets closer, more and more songs will be announced to get us even more excited for the event! We will be sure to keep an eye out for any more musical gems that are released in the build-up that may stand out as potential winners.
