Bella Hadid Is In Her Western Fashion Era

The year of country fashion.

After a year away from the fashion world, model Bella Hadid made a stunning return with a cover feature in Perfect Magazine Issue 6, shot by Bryce Anderson and styled by Katie Grand in December 2023.

The shoot, which Hadid directed herself, showcased Corbin Shaw's custom designs, inspired by a vintage image of Debbie Harry in a dress made from a 1978 poster. This editorial was a beacon of hope for fashion enthusiasts eagerly awaiting Hadid's comeback.

But her return wasn't confined to a single magazine feature. Most recently, Bella graced the cover of the April 2024 issue of Vogue Italia. In this captivating shoot, photographed by Zoë Ghertner and styled by Alex Jordan Harrington, Hadid exuded elegance in a beige Balenciaga dress, posing alongside Dallas, a caramel-colored horse.

The editorial showcased a diverse range of looks, from workwear chic with Loewe tailored black suits and Hermès trench coats to evening wear featuring a Tom Ford steel blue dress and CDLM black split-back tee. There was even room for rodeo-inspired fashion, adding a playful twist to the spread.

By lying down on the horse wearing a fringed Burberry magenta gown and CDLM denim pants, the concept of the editorial, and the announcement of her own brand Ôrebella – where, in the video, Hadid is on her farm with horses, calves, and other animals, wearing brown leather cowboy boots and a yellow, fresh, long dress – confirmed what has been clear for months: Bella Hadid is in her Western fashion era.

The style is no stranger to the model. After all, she's been riding horses since she was a little girl and even considered competing in the 2016 Olympics in horse riding, but was unable to due to Lyme disease.

But since Hadid started dating Adan Banuelos, a professional rider who has even been admitted into the National Cutting Horse Association Riders Hall of Fame, her love for Western wear has only grown and even extended beyond the work environment. Sporting all the denim looks, fringed chaps, leather jackets, cowboy hats and boho looks, even off-duty, she embodies the essence of Western style.

In a glimpse of her 27th birthday, Hadid is pictured celebrating with family and friends at a dining table in a horse stable. Paying homage to the setting, her love of horses, and her style, she wears black denim jeans, black boots, a denim blouse accessorized with a heart-shaped metal belt, and the cherry on top: a cowboy hat.

The birthday à la Americana was followed by other equine events. On February 5, the model shared pictures of her participating in equestrian competitions. "Best boy! Qualified for our first finals together," the caption reads. At the contest, Hadid adhered to the rider's dress code, wearing a grayish-beige cowboy hat, fringed leather pants, a chocolate brown shirt, and her hair in two braids.

The model also spends time volunteering with equine therapy organizations. She most recently shared the Special Equestrian Spa, where she met riders and volunteers who aim to use horses' strength to transform lives by providing equestrian-assisted services to people with diverse abilities. "I feel so lucky to have experienced their magic and learn more about equine therapy and how deeply it can help people worldwide," she shared on Instagram, wearing jeans, cowboy boots, and a bomber jacket with a fur collar.

On March 8, she attended the American Western Weekend in Texas to watch and cheer for her boyfriend. Hadid showed up to the event wearing leather pants, cowboy boots, a hat, and a brown sequined top.

While in the city, she maintained the Western-inspired look. On February 10, the model was spotted on the streets of New York City heading to an event at the Lower Eastside Girls Club. She wore jeans, a white top, a brown leather jacket, and a chunky leather belt.

On March 13, paparazzi spotted her leaving a photoshoot in Beverly Hills. Hadid opted for a refined cowgirl look, focusing on the cut of her jeans. She wore dark bootcut jeans, a timeless Western design, easily fitting the cowboy boots beneath. The outfit was accessorized with a vintage T-shirt and an oversized Saint Laurent bag.

A day later, she ditched the sleek memo. Hadid was seen walking her dog on the streets of Los Angeles wearing a Miss Sixty Denim Zipper Crop Moto Jacket, a suede belt, black boots, a white top, and jeans.

With a style that combines sensuality, sophistication, and a vintage flair, Hadid has always had a penchant for denim, simple tees, and leather. For instance, in her early days of modeling, she displayed a very Southern Californian aesthetic.

After notable shifts towards a sleeker style à la Matrix, and risky 2000s maximalist, she is now leaning back to a more country style similar to her early one. But as her career develops, so does her personal style.

Nothing stops the supermodel from mixing-and-matching all of her fashion eras.
