Yves Saint Laurent Embodies Chicness For Its Spring/Summer 2023 Show

YSL unveiled its Spring/Summer 2023 in front of the Eiffel Tower.

In front of the bright lights of the Eiffel tower surrounded by waterwork fountains and orchestral music playing in the background walked Yves Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2023 collection. Creative director Anthony Vaccarello provided his guests with an experience of grandeur, but done in a tasteful YSL manner. Though the set design and location was nothing less than grand, the Saint Laurent SS23 collection can only be described as chic.

As the models walked down the marble steps of the Jardins du Trocadéro and on the stone path around the Fontaine de Varsovie , there was a clear elegance and sophistication to the clothing. Tailored trench coats were a highlight to the show and appeared on multiple looks either crafted out of leather or cashmere. Vaccarello also embraced dresses with hoods effortlessly draped atop the models’  heads. Form fitting sheer maxi dresses, draped front maxi skirts, leather moto jackets and monochromatic looks all had their shining moments.

What brought the timelessness to the collection was Vaccarello’s clear take on the idea of a capsule wardrobe. The collection was not one of many individual pieces, but rather the same few items shown in different muted colors and versatile styling. In a time where overconsumption is at its highest and trends are chased, the collection speaks to the ability to retain style and class in a refined and minimalist fashion.

The silhouettes are nothing new and can be traced back all the way to 80s and 90s, but when styled right it can still be seen as fresh whilst maintaining its timelessness to remain relevant in the future. The day to night polished looks set a perfect bar on where the future of chic fashion can head towards.
