Grounded in the ever-evolving Japanese fashion landscape, WIND AND SEA is an apparel brand that was founded in 2018 by Takashi Kumagai. Renowned for his work as a stylist and photographer, Kumagai initially started off by focusing on vintage American apparel; now, his exceptional work as creative director is evident in the brand’s original and unique streetwear pieces.

For their most recent collection, WIND AND SEA is collaborating with the National Basketball Association to create an apparel and accessories line focusing on 2000s NBA culture. Dropping on April 6th, the capsule collection highlights the legacy of the Philadelphia 76ers, Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, and San Antonio Spurs.

The six teams, which were competitive rivals throughout the 2000s, serve as the inspiration for the Japanese brand’s collaboration. Retro silhouettes, colorways, and embellishments, originating from the NBA’s vintage styles, were taken into consideration during the design process.

Unisex and age-inclusive, this drop is for everyone, from school students to long-time NBA fanatics. The pieces are designed for women and men alike, ensuring that everyone has the chance to get their hands on the exclusive collection.

Featuring crew neck sweatshirts, velour tracksuits, oxford button-ups, jacquard knits, and a nylon blouson, the products are emblazoned with NBA logos and come in a variety of colorways aligning with each team. Accessors include brim knit caps and neckties.

It’s not too often that the NBA does collaborative collections, especially with up-and-coming brands–it’s certain that this drop will shoot the fashion brand up the ranks in the industry. As WIND AND SEA’s popularity makes it out of Japan, you can expect to see their streetwear styles being sported in cities worldwide.
