Avant-Garde Streetwear: Supreme x MM6
The sought-after collaboration between the New York brand and Maison Margiela's MM6.
On March 28th, Supreme dropped their sellout Spring 2024 collaboration with MM6, the relaxed diffusion brand of the avant-garde fashion house Maison Margiela.
A perfect blend of the two brands, the collection focuses on Supreme’s urban streetwear designs complemented by Margiela’s unconventional elements to create an innovative, future-focused apparel line.
Incorporating a variety of products, Supreme x MM6 features a faux fur coat, varsity jacket, work jackets, t-shirts, hoodies, button-ups, painter pants, shorts, and tanks.
The faux fur coat, a primary piece of the collection, maintains the signature deconstruction of Margiela as it features a patchwork pattern of different styles of fur.
Another distinctive piece, the varsity jacket includes colorblocking of red, green, yellow, and black, emblazoned with Supreme branding.
The hooded work jacket and painter pants combo comes in colorways of black and silver, adding a futuristic take to the worn-down utility style.
Aligning with Margiela’s philosophy of recycled and humble materials, the pair is made of cotton canvas and the jacket features quilted cotton lining. Carrying on with these textiles, the washed cotton suit comes in navy and ivory, adding a sophisticated touch to the drop.
The main colors of the line are black, white, and silver, with pops of true primaries being found throughout. Accessories, such as the camp cap, crew socks, wallet, and Kryptonite chain were also included in the drop. In true Supreme and Margiela fashion, a limited edition skateboard and wig were standout pieces in the collaboration.
A huge hit for the fashion industry, the apparel sold out within minutes of its launch, fueling frustration from megafans of the brands. Unsurprisingly, pieces from the collaboration can be found on resale sites such as StockX, where they are going for far beyond their retail price.
It’s clear that Supreme x MM6 is a highly sought-after Spring 2024 collection, and for good reason. Seamlessly blending the ideologies of the two fashion brands, the unconventional collaboration is the source of heavy buzz in the fashion industry.
