VTMNTS Debuts Non-Binary Wear In its Quest to become “Hèrmes for Gen Z”

Vetements’ sub-label aspires to attract the youth with the new Spring/Summer 2023 collection.

VTMNTS is a more youthful offering than Guram Gvasalia’s mainline Vetements collections aiming to attract Gen Z through non-gender-conforming fashion. In an exclusive press release, Gvasalia explains how the brand “stands for gender equality “and emphasises the fact that “the world is changing and so should fashion!”

The "non-binary" collection saw an array of sharp architectural styled silhouettes and a copious amount of cropped clothing, this design idea was made to encourage wearers to “cut off the unnecessary” additives that fashion can give us. There’s double trouble with the appearance of both the double shoulder and the double trench coat, which create striking bold shapes. Models wear cropped poufy-shaped bomber jackets with micro shorts and thigh-high boots. The midriff-baring trend continues to evolve since it was re-popularised by the now infamous Miu Miu skirt set.

The brand has been trying to create excitement amongst a young audience by creating an ‘edgy’ @vetements_uncensored Instagram account and becoming a meme within the fashion sphere of social media due to the fast pace the models walked at for the last show. It’s only natural to wonder if the brand's push towards a Gen Z customer base will work, after all, most young people can’t afford that many luxury items and the brand hasn’t created a TikTok account, yet. We’ll just have to wait and see if VTMNTS can be just as successful as Vetements.
