Nicolas Ghesquière Brings Timeless Flair to Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2025 in Barcelona
Futuristic innovation meets historical elegance in a stunning show at Park Güell.
Louis Vuitton's Nicolas Ghesquière's creations are known for being timeless in nature by seamlessly fusing futuristic innovation with historical references. As Creative Director for womenswear at Louis Vuitton for the past decade, Ghesquière has managed to keep his grasp on the originality factor. His collections often show a love for the concept of time, one that follows through in the Cruise 2025 collection. In which he once again demonstrates his skill in combining traditional techniques and fabrics in a modern way that allows them to transcend their era.
As a venue for the Cruise 2025 presentation, Louis Vuitton opted for the “Hypostyle Room” in Park Güell, Antoni Gaudí’s famous creation in Barcelona. The opening looks were built around the opening look: a tailored beige set paired with reflective sporty sunglasses and a structural shiny leather-looking boat hat, which was carried throughout the next 15 models. Like in other designs, the colorway paved through beige, black and rich shades of taupe and white representing Ghesquière’s signature classic style.
80s-esque shoulder pads, mob-wife-inspired overcoats and pleated skirts with tight belts around them were dominant on the runway. All given a whimsical ‘clowncore’ interpretation with the use of playful silhouettes.
The various play on traditional silhouettes were so show-stopping, that the audience and spectators were sitting on the edge of their sears, wondering what bold silhouette would be shown next.
It felt as if we had been transported right back to the 80s as the sexy-slow track: Music For Chamaleons by Gary Numan, played in the background as night fell.
Ghesquière's fondness for the usage of texture was everywhere you looked. With fringes galore, tulle-tops and flowy polka dot gowns. Hats have also shown themselves to be the stand-out accessory of 2024, and the Cruise 2025 collection further enhanced this trend. A variety of hats were presented alongside an array of belts on the models.
Celebrating his 10th anniversary at Louis Vuitton, Ghesquière continues to challenge the boundaries of ready-to-wear fashion. In fact, the looks presented in Barcelona not only underlined Ghesquière's own vision, but also mirrored a collective narrative he has developed through the years.
There was personality and soul in each garment, validating Ghesquière's influential role in shaping contemporary fashion incorporating influences from the past.
