The Devil Wears Prada 2 Is Underway!

Oh, don't be silly — everybody wants this. Everybody wants a sequel.

As of late, rumors have been brewing about the revival of a certain fashion flick. The Devil Wears Prada, originally released in 2006, caught the attention of many industry girlies with its sleek styling and relatable storyline. 18 years later we are patiently waiting for the likes of Anne Hathaway and Stanley Tucci to reprise their roles as co-workers attempting to climb the greasy pole to success. Although nothing is fully confirmed, fans are still hopeful that Miranda Priestly will appear on the big screen once more.

Initially, the plot follows Andy Sachs, an agency temp, into her newly assigned role as personal assistant to Priestly — the domineering, room-commanding editor-in-chief of fictional fashion magazine Runway. The film not only provides vast entertainment, but an insight into the not-so-glamorous world of fashion and is allegedly based on author Lauren Weisberger’s own experience as PA to Anna Wintour, famed editor-in-chief of Vogue.

Of course, The Devil Wears Prada is not the only film to make a reappearance as-of-late. Disney are all for the resurgence of “vintage” films, recently releasing Avatar: The Way of Water and Beetlejuice 2 — proving that, yes, everything does need a remake and, no, there are no original concepts left.

Many have been yearning for a follow-up of The Devil Wears Prada for years but with the film leaving us with no cliffhangers or loose ends, is the chapter closed?

In order to continue, the plotline would need to be modernized considerably: the original film was set in a time when fashion was very physical, compared to the digital fashion industry of today. Perhaps Runway would resort to selling online magazine memberships these days!

Besides pray for Emily Blunt’s return, at this point, all we can do is wait. A sequel of this calibre could take years to prepare — by all means, Disney, move at a glacial pace. You know how that thrills us.
