Fashion Trends The Gen Z Way

A simple guide to the more convoluted trends happening today

POSTED BY SOPHIE CLARK

Anyone who keeps up with the trends may have noticed that the naming conventions are getting more and more out there. Gone are the days of just “preppy” or “scene”. We are in the age of more complex naming systems. We don't expect you to automatically understand these trends so we've put together a guide of some of the more extreme examples.

Coastal Grandpa

Coastal Grandpa is comfy above all else. It leans into the trend of baggy clothes and genderless silhouettes to create a look that is effortless and fun. Naturally, a lot of nautical motifs are used. We see nautical motifs plenty these days, with them trending in a seemingly infinite way.

Bimbo Vampire

This look is considered the “look for fall” by girls who like a more gothic look. The goal is to embody the vampiric style of films like The Hunger. The look is the opposite of the clean girl with messy cool-toned makeup. The creator that coined the term, Hannah E. Johnson, looks to people like Suzie Cave as inspiration. Suzie Cave is known for her fashion brand The Vampires Wife.

Evil Milkmaid

This is possibly the most niche aesthetic on this list. The style looks like a modern twist on The Vvitch. Naturally, this style draws on the style of milkmaids, with the same dresses and more natural looks. The evil element is the fact that the style modernizes everything, making it stylish and wearable.

Office Siren

Almost everyone has heard of the office siren at this point, but might not know what it is. The style takes the basics of office wear and transforms them into something fit for the club. The style is almost like the office-to-club looks of the 2010s but far more refined with form-fitting looks and modern cuts.

Gallery Girl

From the same creator as the Bimbo Vampire, the gallery girl understands art and uses it in the way she presents. The aesthetic is sleek, timeless, and cool. The look is unique and accessories with jewelry from independent designers and unusual hair clips. The inspiration will depend on the art that appeals to you.
