Sydney Sweeney and LA Collective Are In a Legal Battle
Hey Cass, I have a quick question for you. Why are you being sued?
Sydney Sweeney, best known for her role as Cassie Howard in HBO’s Euphoria, is being sued by the swimwear brand LA Collective. According to an article from TMZ, Sweeney allegedly backed out of her contract with the company last minute, in addition to being accused of stealing their designs. To make matters worse, LA Collective projects that they lost an estimated $3 million profit resulting from their deal with Sweeney.
What does this mean for Sydney Sweeney? According to the swimwear brand, the actress wore various designs that belonged to LA Collective in multiple episodes of Euphoria. As a result of Sweeney’s actions, the company has sued her for damages. While LA Collective’s approach to earning their profit back may sound harsh to some, this isn’t the first time a company has sued a celebrity for damages or breaching a contract.
In 2005, actress Charlize Theron went into business with the Swiss brand Raymond Weil. Her $3 million, 14-month contract required her to wear Raymond Weil’s watches for any public appearance. Then, in 2006, Theron wore a Dior watch for a public appearance which left a bad taste in Raymond Weil’s mouth. Following the actress’ slip-up, the watch company sued her for $20 million. In late 2008, Theron and Raymond Weil settled out of court for much less than $20 million.
Sydney Sweeney’s camp hasn’t responded to LA Collective in the media yet, so stay tuned for the outcome of this lawsuit; hopefully, it won’t end up like Charlize Theron and Raymond Weil!
