Sailor Chic: The Trend Set to Make a Splash This Year
You don’t have to own a boat to rock this fun trend.
Many a trend is set to make a splash this 2025, and one of the ‘splashiest’ of them all will arguably be the sailor chic trend. Hailing from the fashion shows of designers for their Spring/Summer 2025 collections, this aesthetic is one to watch this year.
The sailor chic look is a ‘nautical revival.’ It is a look inspired by sailors and maritime life that blends old styles with modernity. Think strong, sharp stripes, crisp, tailored looks, big buttons, and the color navy. Modern designers are bringing this baby back for the year. Proenza Schouler made waves by bringing in sailor and nautical-inspired looks for the brand’s 2025 Spring/Summer collection. Stripes, stripes, and – you guessed it – even more stripes were seen on shirts, dresses, and more tailored pieces in the collection.
It wasn’t just Schouler making the most of this vibe. Other designers like Miu Miu and Jacquemus Cruise were also embodying their inner fisherman. For their respective SS25 collections, they both made waves. From Miu Miu’s oversized raincoats and sandals, to Cruise’s fisherman headscarves and billowing linen shirts, all things oceanic were celebrated in the sailor chic style. It makes all the more sense now why this aesthetic is set to become popular as the year rolls on.
So, how to embody the vibe of this look then? Well, I’m glad you asked because that’s what we’re here for. Luckily, the sailor chic look is pretty simple and easy to embody. The staples for it are stripes (of course) but bonus points if they are navy or white as these colours are very sailor-esque. Denim sailor jeans are obvi a must, as are classic yellow raincoats, cable-knit sweaters, and boat shoes. Anything a little tailored also works, and don’t forget anything with a flap collar and a necktie. For this look, the simpler the better really. And thank goodness for that because we love a bit of simplicity! We can’t wait to make the biggest of splashes with the sailor chic trend.
