Recent Movie Premieres And What Their Fashion Tells Us

The movie premiere. An amalgamation of glittering celebs, gala-worthy gowns, and some delightful movie call-backs. I'll never forget Zendaya's cobwebbed dress while promoting Spider-Man: No Way Home, nor Margot Robbie head-to-toe in pink in honor of 2023's Barbie. For me, the rise of 'method dressing' has injected more fun into these events. I may not be a marketing-savvy stylist or actor, but here's what I learned from the premieres I've seen recently.

The Drama

As soon as I saw trailers for The Drama - an A24 black comedy film about a soon-to-be bride's dark secret - I knew Zendaya would be striking again on the press tour. She dressed according to the old wedding rhyme: 'something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.'

Los Angeles' premiere saw her in her 'old' white Vivienne Westwood gown from the 2015 Oscars, and its silky simplicity is definitely in-line with something I would choose. Paris boasted a 'new', form-fitting, Louis Vuitton white dress with a black train.

For Rome, she 'borrowed' Cate Blanchett's 2025 Venice Film Festival look - a slinky black piece with onyx crystals - but the best had to be her electric 'blue' Schiaparelli feathered gown in New York was electric 'blue' in color. I mean, wow!

Rhymes aside, I can see an abundance of waist-hugging silhouettes and silky fabrics seeping into mainstream fashion, and I am 100% in favor of this bridal trend.

Toy Story 5

The fifth movie in the Toy Story franchise revolves around the beloved characters sparring electronics. At the London premiere (May 28th), Greta Lee stole the show in a scarlet High Sport dress emblazoned with stars — I was amazed at how on-theme she was with such a simple design! The stars evoke the iconic Luxo ball that appears throughout the Toy Story films, one of Pixar's most recognizable symbols.

The Hollywood premiere saw mega-star Taylor Swift join the cast in an Erdem corseted frock — an exciting mishmash of historical inspirations. This has to be one of my favorite recent looks on her, because it's so cool and unconventional.

Going forward, we will likely see more florals, stars and other patterns working to create a sense of nostalgia.

Disclosure Day

Steven Spielberg's latest alien adventure revolves around a meteorologist and cybersecurity expert's investigation into the extraterrestrial. In my opinion, Emily Blunt aced this very specific theme. For the Paris premiere (June 2), she wore a white Alaïa dress with a fitted bodice above a cascade of draped fabric.

In London (June 4), she opted for a Stella McCartney dress featuring a lilac peplum corset. She followed that with New York's premiere (June 8), where her Tamara Ralph look wowed with a jutting V-neck shard bodice that reminded me of stalagmites.

If you're someone who likes a peplum bodice, as I do, you were probably thrilled by their abundance and convinced they're about to take over. We're also sure to see plenty of architectural and structured looks, as everyone embraces their most sci-fi self.

I may not be walking a red carpet anytime soon, but that won't stop me from stealing a little premiere style. Scroll below for my Fizzypicks inspired by the fashion moments I can't stop thinking about.
