Paloma Elsesser's Triumph Amid Online Criticism
Haters gonna hate.
Paloma Elsesser is a badass supermodel who's been killing it in the fashion world for the last five years. She's rocked the runways of Fendi, Alexander McQueen, and Balenciaga, and graced the covers of Vogue, Perfect, and Red3licte. She's one of the few models who's showing that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.
But not everyone is happy for her. When she won the Model of the Year award at the British Fashion Awards, making history as the first plus-size woman to do so, she got a lot of hate online. Some people were nasty and fatphobic, and made her feel so bad that she quit social media.
That doesn't seem fair. Paloma deserves the award as much as any other model. They're all amazing in their own ways. Fashion blogger HauteLeMode said it best in a video where he defended her and called out the haters.
Paloma also had to take a break from the AW23 fashion season because she needed surgery that she had put off for a long time. She was tired and stressed by the industry, and she hoped that her break would open up opportunities for other plus-size models. But when she came back, she saw that nothing had changed. The industry was still obsessed with thinness.
Paloma didn't give up, though. She decided to come back to Fashion Week and keep fighting for diversity and inclusion. She wanted to start a conversation and a movement for change. HauteLeMode said that this shows how brave and awesome she is, and why she's the perfect Model of the Year.
