Multilingual Singer, riela, Proclaims That She’s Nobody’s Baby
She delivers this powerful message in both English and Spanish.
How many times has pop culture, rom-coms, or general social pressure made you feel that a romantic validation is absolutely necessary? Probably more than once but thankfully, riela, a multilingual artist from Miami, and her newest single, ‘sola,’ an anthem of self-love, come to your rescue.
‘The song tells my own personal story of rediscovering who I am,’ explains riela. ‘It’s finding my worth through giving myself everything I used to give to other people that didn’t deserve it.’ In a sensual, vibrant, and catchy R&B banger, she preaches how important it is to learn to spend your time with yourself. Kali Uchis and her ‘Solita’ should feel threatened.
Born to indigenous Panamanian and Cuban immigrants and raised in Miami, riela grew up switching between languages and cultures. Staying authentic to her identity, this is exactly what she delivers on ‘sola.’ Curiously enough, though, it’s hard to capture Spanish and English transitions because riela moves between both languages naturally and gracefully.
‘Most, if not all of my songs, are bilingual,’ riela admits. ‘It’s the way most Miamians speak in general. I think it was a really beautiful moment when I realized Spanglish worked well in my music and relayed the message I’m trying to get across. It’s important for me to write and sing in the way I speak so listeners can understand an important part of who I am within a song.’
‘sola’ by riela, a powerful anthem in a universal language of self-love, is out now.
