The Journey Into Your 20s

Expectations vs. reality.

POSTED BY ROSIE ERTUNC

Entering your 20s feels like stepping into a world filled with endless possibilities. It’s the decade where you’re expected to figure everything out—your career, relationships, finances, and identity. Society paints a picture of success: by 25, you should have a dream job, an exciting social life, and a clear vision for your future. The pressure can be overwhelming, making you feel like you’re constantly racing against time.

But then reality sets in. Your 20s are messy, uncertain, and full of trial and error. Instead of a perfect career, you might be stuck in a job you dislike or struggling to break into your desired field. Friendships change, some fade away, and loneliness can creep in. Financial independence is harder than expected, and "having it all together" seems like a distant dream.

However, this decade is also about growth. The mistakes, failures, and unexpected turns shape you more than instant success ever could. You learn resilience, adaptability, and the importance of patience. Slowly, you realise that no one truly has it all figured out—and that’s okay. Life isn’t about meeting societal timelines but about finding your own pace.

So, if your 20s don’t look like the picture-perfect version you imagined, don’t worry. It’s a time for exploration, self-discovery, and embracing the unknown. The expectations may not match reality, but that’s what makes the journey worthwhile.
