Met Gala Magic: A Look Back at Iconic Celebrity Fashion Moments
Unveiling 5 unforgettable red carpet looks.
It's THAT time of year again when fashion connoisseurs eagerly await their favorite celebrities walking the red carpet in some of the most lavish designer looks of all time. Hosted by the Queen of Fashion: Anna Wintour, the annual Met Gala held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City continues to be one of the most anticipated events of the year.
Having been held annually since 1973, the event has seen a bunch of stunning looks over the years that we simply can't get enough of. In fact, some may say that some of these looks have been ahead of their time and certainly highly iconic and unforgettable.
Rihanna's Pope Ensemble
In 2018, one of the most photographed and stylish women of all time, Rihanna, hit the carpet as the literal Pope. Just kidding, but she did in fact go for a bishop-inspired catholic outfit, designed by Margiela, paired with some Cartier jewelry. Quite literally a match made in heaven.
Bad Bunny draped in roses
Everyone's favorite Bunny attended the 2023 Met Gala wearing a tailored, backless, off-white suit by none other than Jacquemus. The clean-out look radiated French couture and the best of all, was covered in roses. Bad Bunny Goes Good.
Cher's Bare Necessity by Bob Mackie
Fans of Cher know her close relationship with designer Bob Mackie and know she's often worn his famous dresses throughout the years. Back in 1974, she and Mackie arrived at the Met together, arm in arm, with Cher rocking a jaw-dropping, sheer gown. Known today as her iconic: Naked Dress. Cher-ing is caring.
Iman dazzles in Dolce
Supermodel, fashion muse, and wife of legendary David Bowie, Iman, wowed the carpet in 2021 dressed like a gold-dipped goddess. In a custom D&G gown and matching headpiece, her look was like something out of a fantasy movie, otherworldly and etheric even. Perfect for Iman, who is still one of the most celebrated supermodels to this day.
Frank " The Chill " Ocean
Who could be more in tune than Frank Ocean, showing up to the 2019 Met Gala ("Camp" themed) sporting a casual and laid-back nylon anorak with matching pants? This Prada look might seem to have underplayed the all-expected Met Gala look, but truth be told, it grabbed headlines making the whole theme just that much more fun when taken literally. Camp is nylon, camp is Prada, camp is Frank Ocean.
So, which celebrities are you hoping to see on this year's glamorous carpet? The theme of this year's Met Gala is The Garden of Time.
Seems like we will be whisked away into a magical world filled with fashion, florals, and fairytales.
The Met Gala will take place on Monday, May 6th 2024.
