Gucci Celebrates 60 Years in Japan

Gucci is honoring its six-decade legacy in Japan with a captivating exhibition dedicated to its iconic Bamboo 1947 bag. Titled "Bamboo 1947: Then and Now. Celebrating 60 Years of Gucci in Japan," the showcase is currently underway at the Gucci Ginza Gallery.
Born in 1947, the Bamboo 1947 bag is a testament to Gucci’s innovative spirit and unparalleled craftsmanship. The exhibition delves deep into the bag's history, showcasing over 400 pieces reimagined by a diverse group of Japanese artisans and contemporary artists, curated by Creative Director Sabato De Sarno.
The two-floor exhibition offers a comprehensive journey through the bag's evolution. The sixth floor houses a chronological display of the Bamboo 1947, showcasing archive pieces and collaborative projects that highlight the bag's enduring appeal. The seventh floor is a creative playground where 60 vintage bags have been transformed by renowned artists.
From the delicate goldsmithery of Morihito Katsura and Naoko Ai to the bold photography of Daido Moriyama, each artist brings a unique perspective to the iconic bag, pushing the boundaries of design and craftsmanship. Ceramicist Hirotsune Nakazato, lacquer artist Ai Tokeishi, and painters Yui Yaegashi and Nami Yokoyama also contribute their distinct artistic visions.
