Eva Mendes Was Right When She Said #Thatsmyken

In April, we first saw Margot Robbie as Barbie in Greta Gerwig’s highly-anticipated movie about the Mattel toy. After the behind-the-scenes photo was released, the internet bubbled with excitement while waiting for other images featuring the rest of the cast. Finally, the official Warner Brothers Twitter account granted our wishes; on June 15th, we got another behind-the-scenes look, but this time we got to see a bleach blonde Ryan Gosling as Barbie’s longtime-BF Ken.

Since the photo was released, there’s been some division among Twitter users. Some accounts replied to the tweet with memes depicting their confused feelings about the choice to cast Gosling, while others seemed to have heart eyes for the heartthrob. The La La Land actor’s longtime partner, Eva Mendes, commented about Gosling’s Ken too. Mendes, a triple-threat actress, model, and businesswoman, posted the infamous photo of Ryan on her Instagram, captioning the image with “So. F. Funny. So. F. Good. So F excited for you to see this…,” and followed it up with #Thatsmyken.

While fans of Robbie and Gosling will be first in line to see Barbie, Gosling’s kids probably won’t be. Greta Gerwig’s comedic adaptation of the popular Mattel toy will be rated PG-13; the story will follow Barbie as she’s kicked out of Barbieland for not following the rules about being conventionally attractive, and she embarks on a self-discovery journey in the real world. Even though we’ve only seen Margot and Ryan in costume for Barbie, we will probably get more sneak peeks of other characters before the film’s release next year. Emma Mackey, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, and Simu Liu are part of the ensemble cast, but the studio hasn’t revealed the characters they’ll be playing.

You can catch Barbie in theaters on July 21st of next year!
