Blackpink Makes History And Becomes The First K-Pop Group To Cover Rolling Stone

This past week has been full of new Blackpink content for fans’ greatest pleasure. The girl group collaborated with Rolling Stone magazine through a set of photoshoots and interviews. Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa address their their path; from their life as Trainees under YG Entertainment to their superstars status, their personal struggles and how they see themselves in the future.

The K-Pop Act who debuted in 2016 with the song “WHISTLE” spent 10 years practicing and improving their dancing and singing skills in YG headquarters where they were sharing the same dormitory room. The girls discuss how they had to deal with stress, pressure, exhaustion and living far from their families at a young age. “We were on survival mode,” says Jennie for Rolling Stone. “Every month, our friends were forced to leave, go home. Getting stressed ? Having it rough ? Those feelings were a luxury. What mattered was debuting.” 

In 2018, Blackpink’s career reaches a turning point when they release “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du”. The song tops charts internationally, peaking at number 55 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and becoming the highest-charting song by a Korean girl group. The clip is the most-watched music video by a Korean group on YouTube with more 1.8 billion views.

Regardless of their massive success, the girls value a simple life and are more down-to-earth as they explain in the interview “More than anyone, we want to be ordinary girls,” says Jennie. “Sure, there are times when we talk about what kind of influence we could have. But what we actually love is talking about our cats, dogs, good food, and pretty places.” 

Two years after the release of their first album named “The Album”, Lisa, Rosé Jennie and Jisoo are focused on their upcoming projects including an album and a world tour. The group is fully involved in the making and creative process. “We don’t just receive a completed song,” says Jisoo. “We are involved from the beginning, building the blocks, adding this or that feeling, exchanging feedback and this process of creating makes me feel proud of our music” 

Blackpink is the third girl group in history to be on the cover of Rolling Stone, following the Spice Girls and Destiny’s Child.
