Portuguese via UK artist Zinha, also known as Luisa Chumbinho, has been making waves with her debut single ‘why do u make me wait?’. The song, released a few weeks ago, has garnered significant attention, securing over 40 features across international outlets and achieving impressive streaming numbers for a debut track. Zinha's presence on TikTok has also seen a considerable boost, with her following nearly doubling in the past three weeks.
Building on this momentum, Zinha is set to release her new single 'Walls' on August 14th, accompanied by a DIY music video currently in its final stages of editing and color grading. This stunning pop ballad is part of her upcoming debut EP ' ☹☺ [sad/happy]', slated for release on September 20th via B3SCI. The EP features a focus track titled 'so blue', and early listeners can already sample both 'Walls' and the EP tracks.
The Journey of Zinha
Luisa Chumbinho, the creative force behind Zinha, embarked on her music journey during the cold winter months of 2021. As a Portuguese native based in the UK and working as a part-time waitress, she pondered how to pursue her musical dreams in the post-pandemic world. A heartfelt conversation with her friend and producer Josh Christopher led to the birth of her solo project, named after her childhood nickname, Zinha.
The duo spent a year in a DIY recording studio, crafting the 8-track EP ' ☹☺ [sad/happy]'. Now, Zinha splits her time between the UK and Portugal, becoming one of Lisbon’s most beloved buskers, known for her enchanting vocal performances and crowd-pleasing covers at various hotspots.
'Walls' - A Beautiful Reflection
'Walls' is a testament to Zinha’s talent for timeless contemporary songwriting and style. This pop ballad showcases her ability to convey deep emotions through music. As Zinha explains, "We wrote 'Walls' after hearing a small snippet on Josh’s phone of the initial melody and chords. It naturally came together as I sang and he played in the studio. It was all recorded, as instructed by Josh, without any metronome - so it’s all live pretty much. A real challenge. To me, 'Walls' is that moment in every relationship, friendship, or bond that’s come to an end of its era. It’s the crashing of waves, it’s the rumbling of the underground, and it’s the sound of the hard rain falling."
