Travel in Style: Become an Airport Crush
How to travel comfortably without sacrificing style.
Waking up at 5 a.m. and heading to the airport is probably my least favorite feeling, no matter how excited I am for the trip. Undone, ugly, and puffy from the altitude, I know I’m no one's airport crush.
I stumble out of bed, throw on the first sweats I see, and rush through TSA, avoiding eye contact with anyone that might see the most undone version of myself.

As much as I wish that airports could be as romantic as they are in the movies, real-life traveling is probably one of the least glamorous experiences I can think of. I long to be Annie from Sleepless in Seattle as Sam follows her through the terminal the second she freshly walks off the plane– the classic “magic” at first sight moment.
But back here in reality, we’re no longer living in the time when traveling signaled class, and planes were not just transit points, they were social gatherings. This also means looking put-together on a plane is no longer a necessity.

Even though I’d never sacrifice my comfort on flights, I admit, I could try a little harder. Whatever my next trip may be, whether it’s a long flight to Europe or, more likely, just going home to see my parents, I vow to be someone’s airport crush (preferably a guy with a private plane).
I’ll be trading my baggy sweatpants for more tailored, yet just as comfortable, pants, and swapping my oversized sweatshirt for a nice sweater and overcoat. Sleek sneakers will replace my Uggs, and a structured tote will take over my slouchy backpack. Maybe I won’t actually stop anyone in the terminal, but at least I’ll feel like I could.

So if I’m going to romanticize my next early-morning departure, I might as well dress the part. Think polished layers, comfy-but-chic trousers, sleek sneakers, and a coat that makes the security line feel like a runway.
