Why We’re Loving Oversized Sunnies

For the past many years, I’ve been rocking the small sunglasses that only cover my eyes and just about nothing else. They fit my face perfectly and were an elegant addition to my outfits. I honestly have nothing bad to say about the minimalist frames because they were, and will probably continue to be, my go-to staples in my accessories drawer.

However, since we’ve collectively decided to lean messy this year, my sunglass game is no exception to the aesthetic. Oversized sunglasses are having their moment in the sun right now, and I think it perfectly sums up this year’s trajectory.

Wearing glasses that completely swallow my face is honestly a blessing in disguise, especially on hungover mornings when I just want to hide the night before, which is written all over my face with leftover makeup.

Whether they are bug-eyed or geometric, oversized sunnies are a chic addition to our messy lives. I’m thinking back to when gas station sunglasses were all the rage—cheap, ironic, and worn with zero regard for polish. Oversized sunnies feel like their elevated successor: still playful and a little ridiculous, but intentional, styled, and meant to be taken seriously.

In a year that celebrates imperfection and maximalism, oversized sunglasses are the perfect accessory, reminding us that, sometimes, bigger is better.
