We “Can’t Help Falling In Love” With Austin Butler

Everyone's new favorite internet boyfriend is set to take over the silver screen.

The second trailer for Elvis, starring heartthrob Austin Butler, was released yesterday, and I think I can speak for all of us when I say that he looks fantastic. While Butler has been in some pretty big films before Elvis (I’m looking at you, Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure), it’s possible to say that this will be the break-out role that catapults him to the Academy Awards.

Even though the first trailer was about the same length as the one released yesterday, we get a closer look at Butler’s performance in the three-minute and twelve-second video. In a quote from the official synopsis for Elvis, “The story delves into the complex dynamic between Presley and Parker spanning over 20 years.” Viewers get a snippet of Elvis as a tween in the video and the later years of his career, but it seems like the bulk of the film will be centered around the peak of Elvis Presley’s career.

While Butler looks somewhat unrecognizable as the “King of Rock and Roll,” Tom Hanks is barely visible as Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker. As Parker was born in the Netherlands, Hanks’ character will narrate the flick using a vague Dutch accent. Butler also had an accent to nail to sell his performance as the southern singer; the actor mentioned using a voice coach to perfect the cadence and inflections of Presley. Austin’s talent doesn’t stop there; besides getting his voice to an almost identical pitch to Elvis’, he will also be singing most of the songs in various scenes, with specific numbers mixing Elvis’ voice with Austin's.

Catch Austin Butler’s performance in the biopic Elvis on June 24th in theaters.
