Watch The Weeknd And Lily-Rose Depp Sizzle in HBO's "The Idol" Teaser Trailer
The electrifying new series is set to be coming sooner than we think.
The Weeknd has always been one of the few truly enigmatic superstars that we have left in today’s culture of oversharing, exploitation, and immense saturation. He tends to allow his music to speak for itself, and had surprisingly never done a public interview until 2021 when he had no other choice due to his headlining of the Superbowl Halftime Show. However, one realm of media that Abel had yet to dip his feet into was acting, something that seemed to fit him so perfectly given his meticulous portrayal of the character he created in relation to his hit 2020 album After Hours.
With that being said, as of last year, it had been confirmed that The Weeknd had been flexing his writing skills alongside acclaimed writer Sam Levinson, who is the mastermind behind the HBO phenomenon Euphoria. Minimal information about the show’s plot had been disclosed, but Lily-Rose Depp, Troye Sivan, Jennie Kim, Hari Nef, and Debby Ryan had been confirmed to be starring in the series, as well as The Weeknd himself making his acting debut as the male lead. Now, this is not Abel’s first go-around with film or TV, given that he made his film debut back in 2019 in the film Uncut Gems, however it was more of a cameo given he was simply playing himself. Along with a few voice-overs here and there, The Idol will be Abel’s first real, gritty acting role.
The series is set to be based around a self-help guru who is the leader of a cult getting involved in a chaotic relationship with an up-and-coming pop idol. Based in the glitz of Hollywood and focusing around the music industry, we are all eagerly waiting for an official release date, given that the teaser trailer simply says “coming soon.”
