Pharrell Williams has released a short film ahead of the launch of his highly anticipated capsule collection with the Parisian fashion house, Chanel, which has shaken up all usual proceedings.

Ever since the Happy singer announced he would be designing an exclusive collection with Chanel in 2018, fans have been eagerly waiting for details. Now, a film about the making of the collection and campaign has been exclusively shared with Vogue, documenting the spirited and vibrant process we’d expect from Pharrell.

The behind-the-scenes film that released on March 26 showcases the unique blend of Chanel’s trademark elegance curated with a streetwear edge and features the brands signature CC and N°5 logos and reimagined them as graffiti and embellished motifs. With entry price points for Chanel’s consumers, the collection adds playfulness in the form of a rainbow palette. The items in the collection take inspiration from streetwear culture in the form of unisex hoodies, costume jewelry, bucket hats, bum bags, logo-ed belts, and tees.

The optimism of the campaign is reflected by the choice of models featured. Alton Mason, Anok Yai, Adesuwa Aighewi and Soo Joo Park all enthuse over the overstated jewelry and loafers in the film. “Pharrell has had a huge impact on popular culture and hip-hop culture,” smiles Mason in between takes of the futuristic campaign shots, which are inspired by the anime film Akira.

The Chanel-Pharrell collection will be available worldwide from April 4.
