The Devil Wears Prada Soundtrack Put In The Work
Runway Magazine has good taste.
Soundtracks, especially in the 2000s, could make or break any film. Without a memorable soundtrack, any drama, rom-com or anything in between is flavorless and feels just a bit unfinished. The original Devil Wears Prada track was without a doubt iconic, immaculately mirroring high-fashion New York while still keeping it classy. The sequel blew my expectations out the window, yet preserves the refined quality of the original.

First up, Lady Gaga dominates the soundtrack like she was born to be there. She opens the film with three new songs, making it hard to believe she wasn’t part of the original soundtrack all along. Of course, Miranda Priestley’s magazine RUNWAY needed the perfect complementary track to resurrect her character after 20 years, and Gaga and Doechii delivered exactly that. After their show-stopping music video together, Gaga’s cameo feels completely deserved.

RAYE, Laufey and Olivia Dean, arguably some of the biggest pop girls of the year, bring the perfect needle-drops, adding just the right balance of pop and R&B that elevates the film even further. Paired with the voices of rising stars Sienna Spiro and The Marías, the soundtrack delivers one standout moment after another. While a compilation this mainstream could easily feel clunky or overly dependent on star power, each track feels intentionally selected to match the scenes, uncovering a new layer of emotion and complexity throughout the film.

As a whole, The Devil Wears Prada remains a classic still adored today, and the sequel absolutely does it justice. Instead of relying on tired 2000s nostalgia, the film understands exactly what it is and fully owns it. The music pushes the film’s sass to the next level, blending old and new tracks into a soundtrack that feels stylish, self-aware, and effortlessly current.
